$20 at Goodwill

I stopped by Goodwill tonight on my way home to look for fall clothes for J (foster baby, 16 mo). I was able to pick up 3 pairs of pants, 4 tops, 2 zip up sweaters and 2 pairs of warm jammies for $20. ALl of the clothes were good quality and in really good condition. Thank goodness for Goodwill!

While I was checking out, I was explaining what the clothes were for- the lady checking me out said "I have 9 grandkids and ALL of them are in foster care"...She said it was due to drugs and the epidemic we have. I was speechless. I wished her well and left feeling even more frustrated for children. WTH.

I want to try to find some age appropriate toys for both boys this weekend. I am starting with the power of Facebook, and will look for sales, yard sales, etc. we also have an avenue at work for placing classified ads. We have many younger parents who might have toys that have been outgrown. Past experience tells me that plastic containers, metal containers and wooden and plastic spoons will work for the baby. Blocks and pretend play for Z (age 5) and maybe a few books.

So, my mission this weekend is to scavenger hunt! Smile

    Good luck on your scavenger hunt! Check out garage sales in middle class neighborhoods. I've no doubt that you'll find plenty of nearly-new toys there. I'm always incredulous at the amount of toys those families must have to be getting rid of so many. When our kids were toddlers, we even picked up several of those Little Tikes kitchens, slides, and garage sets for just a few bucks to create a winter play area in our house.

    I couldn't help but think: for all that woman's grandkids to be in foster care, all her kids are likely on drugs. Yikes. There must be a story there.

    I used to work with a gramma and grampa who were raising their grandchildren -- because their daughter was a drug addict. So sad.

    Jenn- I thought the same thing when she was telling me about it. Poor kids!

    Bluebird- Thank you so much. DD2 is going to take an inventory tomorrow and I will let you know. I sincerely appreciate your offer!

    CB- it is so sad. The drug issues in our country are crazy sad. Sadly, the children are the victims...and the ones who suffer from it.
