Turning 50...but not for a few months.

January 9th, 2011 at 03:44 am

My bff and I are both celebrating our 50th this year. Several months ago I reserved a beautiful 8 bedroom home in a resort for 4 days and all my kids and a few close friends will be joining me as guests that weekend. I have been saving and planning for several months already and I still have 4 months to go!

Today my friend called to say she is having two parties. One at her home on her birthday for all of her friends and relatives...and the second is a destination party that will most likely be in Jamaica!! So, now I have to decide if I take the inexpensive route and celebrate in So California...or if I go all out and join her in Jamaica for an all-inclusive 7 day adventure! Hmm... It would be much more do-able if I wasnt having my party...however, I am still very excited about it and wont change my plans.

I guess I will see how finances go over the next month and decide if I have it or not. My friend and I have been buddies since we were 12 and neither of us have ever done a big to-do for ourselves...so Im honestly hoping to do both.

I guess I will see!

Wow, that does sound great. How much would it cost? Perhaps you could suggest to your family members that they not give you gifts for your 50th, and instead chip in toward this trip? I hope you find a way to make it...

Go for it. I'll be turning 49 in April, so in a sense my trip is a one-time to do for sister and I right before either of us turn 50.

mjrube94- It is going to cost about $3k which covers airfare and the all-inclusive. Considering I only budgeted $1200 (not including my birthday bash) for the whole year's vacation...I would have to allocate from somewhere else. So I am carefully considering what to do.

Baselle- thats right! Youre getting ready for Vietnam. What an exciting trip for you and your sis!!! Cant wait to see the 'interesting' pics you can come up with from across the world!!

Homebody, Savings Queen and Julie- thank you! I am hoping for both too...stay tuned!

I hope you can work out a way to do all the things you wish...friendship is a gift and so few people stick around for years and years.
