County loses Grants and will close all 15 Library Branches

This is our news here. As of March, all 15 of our county libraries will close their doors until some other form of financing is found.

How very troubling that such a wonderful service may go the way of the dinosaur.

The head of our library system has decided to retire Jan 1,saying it has nothing to do with this recent turn of events... but has offered to help stay on part-time to help with the closing of all the branches.

and we pay taxes why?...I shudder to think of some of the things tax dollars are spent on instead of our public services.

    Ray heard that on the news today, I live in Oregon also but I can't remember what county it was. So sad that this state can manage to spend
    billions for light rail, tram, making sure the homless in portland have benches to sleep on ect. ect. ect. Where does 20 billion in spending go? down the hole I guss.

    It's scary that we live in an "informtion economy" and yet the government can close the door on access to information like that. I hope that something works out.

    Wow, that's really too bad. I know how hard it was for us when Governor Rendell cut the libraries' money by 32% a few years ago. It was really tough going for the libraries to make ends meet.

    I'm really sorry to hear that they decided libraries were expendable.

    I wonder if they could stay open with volunteers, like a volunteer fire department? The library is something so many count on for so much!!
