Huh?

May 20th, 2009 at 02:34 am

So, the hub comes home last night and talks about his day. For such a long time, we're talking over 10 years, the hubs job has been 90% stress and frustration and 10% good days. He has worked at this company for 16 years.

It gets old.

Very Old.

So, last night he mentions that he got a job offer. My ears perk up...maybe, just maybe he will be HAPPY at work finally...it has good benefits, pays VERY WELL...and he gets 13 weeks a year vacation...

Holy COW.

The catch? It is in Alaska. He would be gone 6-8 weeks and home 2-4. (No, I wouldnt go...I love my job and would not move from the rest of the family)Hmmm...so, we are seriously considering him taking it. We have tried the semi-traditional life for the past 18 years...semi, because- while he works 40 or so a week and its local, he works nights and I work days...so we usually only see each other on weekends. This new arrangement would actually put him home for 13 weeks a year....

I said I would support it...so the ball is in his court to find out the details, etc....

wow.

I am now T minus 3 for vacation. I am so much more than ready. I am packing and getting everything ready to go. Smile

Of course, weather reports in PV for the next several days are for THUNDERSTORMS...lol...but who cares? A king size bed with a view...and NO RESPONSIBILITY...its all very, very good.

but....ALASKA? hmmm....stay tuned!

Well, I have not been without my husband for a day for 32 years. I don't think I could handle being alone. I wish you well and have a great vacation!

I say go for it! Sounds like a nice change.

A lot to think about, for sure. I am one of those who does not have to see my spouse every single day. I'd take the vacation. Big Grin Though it sounds like there may be a lot of costs to consider?

    Enjoy your trip!

Alaska is expensive...The food is more, the clothes are more. If a company vehicle is not provided you may need to save to buy a good four wheel drive with a battery blanket if you do not have one already. Just make sure you check into the costs for housing and food for him, so you can see if you will come out ahead.

you can try it for a while. It will certainly open up new experiences. He's taking the hit leaving the family and going to such a cold cold place to live alone. So I agree support him and see what life brings. But keep in mind the price of airfare to visit each other.
