The word you never want to hear from the doctor...

May 24th, 2007 at 05:17 am

Hospice.

Such a scary, sad, maddening, hurtful, painful, surreal word...when someone you love is sick.

It takes your breath away, makes you cry, leaves you feeling hopeless...

It is the beginning of the end...

It is a transition to acceptance...(or so Ive been told...right now it is a big black hole waiting to suck me in...)

and it sucks.

The doctor told us that it may be time to call hospice for my dad.

He can't breathe on his own very well...and he refuses to go into the hospital to 'prolong the inev....' dang.

Sorry guys...my rollercoaster life just took a downward spiral tonight.

I guess we will see how tomorrow goes.

I'm sorry to hear your dad isn't doing well. It is very hard. I've been there. Hospice can help the entire family, and make your father's last months more comfortable though. I know this is a very difficult time for you and your family.

I am sorry for the hard place you are going through right now. Hospice does make this hard place so much easier. I was there last year. My mother passed away. I never really knew too much about Hospice until then. I can't say enough good about them. I hope in some small way it helps you to know someone does care that you are going through this hard place. Please take one day at a time. Take care.

I'm so sorry. I have a sick mother who is still home but I know I'll be down the same path as you. You are in my thoughts.

I'm sorry, Ray. I know that the hospice houses in my county are wonderful places. There is so much warmth and humanity and compassion in them. It eases the transition and gives comfort, but of course, it does not ease your pain. Hang in there and I will be holding you and your family in my prayers.

Thanks so much everyone. They have upped his prednisone and oxygen...of course, long term, niether is good for you...but in his case, we are just trying to get him able to breathe day to day. He is looking a little better tonight, and has a doctor appointment tomorrow to discuss the options. I do realize the value of hospice...wonderful organization. Im just not ready to go there yet. I appreciate your thoughts and hugs and prayers. Thank you.
