I have been reading alot of your posts regarding gift cards and cancelling services...so I decided to try a couple out and see how it goes. I signed up for my points recently and received an offer to join 'Complete home" for $1 and will get a $20 Lowes card....I just have to remember to cancel within a month.
Then, I opened two new accounts (Wells Fargo= $25 GC and BofA = $50)...The Wells account has to be open for 30 days, the BofA is 50 days (I believe)..I'll see what happens...
I am planning to utilize the Complete Home website while I have this one month trial and see what benefits there are.
I'll update on what happens.
Gift Cards, etc...

I was reading about Flash's card-o-thon I want to try this myself but I'm afraid to forget to cancel the membership and get hit with the monthly fee.
Well, I'm really interested and just have to try this.
Good luck to you

You don't need to wait for the member packet to come in the mail, just call in and get the membership number and you can go ahead on the website.
I like these things, but you have to be very careful about the timing!

The only downside to the deal is this: when you call to cancel, they will ask you why ("checked it out and didn't think I'd use it enough to justify paying for it"). Then, they'll remind you that you have some time left in your trial period (and they may offer to extend it for you) and they'll sometimes offer additional vouchers to get you to continue to trial. Just keep saying "no thanks" and they'll give you a cancellation #.
Also, as Flash mentioned in a previous post, you can actually sign up for these offers several times, by using a different credit card for the $1 fee. I'd wait to do it the second time until the first one is finished...the offers don't seem to be going anywhere.
As for the best way to remember to cancel, I use two methods: I write a reminder in my calendar about 3 weeks out. Also, I leave the email with my member # in my inbox. That way, everytime I check my emails I see it. Then when I cancel, I delete the message.
So far, I've gotten $40 in Exxon gcs, $20 BBB, and $20 Lowes, and $60 Circuit City. Good luck and have fun.

I put a "reminder" note on my computer to email me everyday, after the first week, to cancel. That way I remember to call.
The fine print -- on the sites, they actually give you the cancel by mail option and address. I've done it, and it worked just as well. Price of a stamp, but no arguments!
