DH and MONEY

July 10th, 2006 at 02:33 pm

You have to spend money to make money.
You have to spend money to make money.
You have to.....

I am using this mantra so I don't shift into panic mode over the money we are spending lately.

The wood business is all about spending right now. New chainsaw, new trailer, gas to get to the sites, money to pay the guys who are helping, new work jeans and shirts for DH, etc. My stack of deductible receipts is GROWING quickly...but so is the debt.

Time for a reality check. I have to look at our finances this morning and figure out how to pay off as much as possible (Challenge account may have to start from scratch)...

Come August/September, when we start deliveries- the situation will turn around...but I am having some major anxiety over all the spending...not to mention the meal or two out that went on the CC to be paid off with future earnings...

This weekend just felt like the old spending habits had snuck back in...we went over grocery budget by almost $100- We did some stocking, but still....

Major setback...stumble...oops...I dont even know what to call my not so frugal choices and decisions the past few days...

50 lashes and a good dose of reality today...and I should be back on track...we shall see. Frown

Ray, I do know how you are feeling. We have been building spec houses. Each house costs more each time. The most expensive (not counting the lot) we have built, cost us $180.000. (lot was $55,000) This house has cost $125,000 and will take another $125,000 to finish at least. (not counting the lot which was $65,000) Our first house was about $80,000. I never planned on spending over $300,000 to build a house! So, I am panicing too. I want to get back to small plain houses and not spend so much of our money.

Ray, you call them learning experiences. You see if you have enough MyPoints to get a Home Depot or Lowes card. You take a breath, and realize how far you've COME, because I'll bet previously you would not have noticed, or tried to "correct"/accomodate/absorb the expenses. BIG progress, give yourself MAJOR kudos when you REALIZE what a change you are making in the way you think about money!

DH, well, I will be the first to admit, I was horrible at the "business expense, deductible, house expense, deductible", while hubby was reminding me that deductible did not mean reimbursed or FREE, just a decrease in the tax rate.

If it applies, check the Home Depot or Lowes rebate sites, they have LOADS online that you'd never realize otherwise.

We (I) fall off the wagon all the time. Just try not to fall as far as you used to.... and it doesn't sound like you do! You are doing a super job... look at all the hanging laundry!
Just like I told Priceplus the other day.... debt is an ugly fact of life. Realize it is not forever! Accept what is there, do your best and do'nt stop living life!

I was able to pay off the debt from this weekend. I had actually forgot about the $250 that I put into DHs ING account to get the $25 bonus...I xferred part of that to pay it off.

About an hour later, DH called to say that we are getting a load of madrone wood tonight...which means I need to come up with $750!!! Oh boy. So we opted to borrow enough to cover the next few loads...and will pay them back as we start selling the wood. I didnt want to completely drain all savings...so I think I was out of debt for all of an hour...lol. (However, this is good debt)

Thank you for all of your encouragement- it really does help! ALOT.
