Vacation...sort of...Hub home, not yet....

January 18th, 2013 at 02:43 am

Today I was not as successful at getting my workload completed for vacation. There were simply too many roadblocks. So, while I am officially on vacation, I will be toting my laptop from work and working off and on to keep some important balls rolling this next week. It is simply unavoidable. But, that comes along with being exempt.

The hub is enroute tonight, but I am not sure if the heavy freezing fog we are experiencing will allow his plane to land or not. (Update...his flight is cancelled. He wont be home until tomorrow...poor guy.) He will arrive in Seattle in a couple of hours, and then we will find out if the connecting flight is happening. If it doesnt, the poor guy will sleep in the airport on one of those comfy (not) benches. He has been working 20 hour days and so I know he is exhausted already.

DD3 received her first full week paycheck. Her bring home, for one week = $1717. She was ecstatic. She will have all debt (she just owes $ to the hub and me and a small student loan) and have a nice big savings account to come home to.

Since she is paying us back, and we arent supporting her, my debt repayment will accelerate nicely. In all, she started out owing us just over $5k, but she will be under $3k tomorrow after only two weeks.

So happy to be on vacation..even though I have to work some, it is nice to know I can just do it on my time. So looking forward to our trip to the vacation home next week!!

I was going to suggest the hotel, as well. DD3 got nearly $2K on her first paycheck?! Will that be her regular take-home pay? That's a phenomenal amount.

I've done the airport thing. Usually, I walk around pushing a trolley with my bag, and hit the bar. If the layover is long enough, I get either a hotel or a day room and take a shower and a nap. The shower is usually the preferred route, especially after an overseas flight.

Sorry to hear about DHs flight. Frown
Soooo...how does one go about getting a job in Alaska like DD3's? 2 or 3 years of paychecks like that, and I could maybe retire ... Smile

I know, that was a surprise on DD3s check. She works 12 hours a day 7 days a week...but when youre young and no responsibilities, what a way to earn. That will be her normal weekly wage. ($21.50 an hour)...

Ya Wino, he lands in under 10 minutes...and then has at least 12 hours, so it didnt make sense for him to wander the airport when he is so tired. At least there is free shuttle to the hotel for him and he can sleep and shower in the am.

This fog wont lift until mid morning...

FT75, there are jobs like that in the oil patch, with similar hours to DD3's schedule. It's long hours and hard work, but the pay is great. Usually, you're paid for 84 or 91 hours during the weeks you work, and get 40 hours per week when you're off. So, if that's the case with DD3, then she's still going to see $600 or so on the off weeks. Annual take home of $100K is not unusual.

Thanks Wino, I think I'm not built for working 12hrs x 7days/wk ... not even for early retirement's sake.
